Chicago, Illinois, USA

**Craig Phillip Robinson** (born October 25, 1971) is an American actor, comedian, musician, and producer. Celebrated for his smooth deadpan delivery, sharp improvisational timing, and deep musical sensibilities, he achieved worldwide fame for his portrayal of warehouse foreman Darryl Philbin on the acclaimed NBC mockumentary series *The Office* (2005 to 2013). Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, Robinson was introduced to music early by his mother, a music teacher. He attended Whitney M. Young Magnet High School and earned a Bachelor of Music from Illinois State University, followed by a Master of Education from Saint Xavier University. Before pursuing professional show business, he worked as an elementary and middle school music teacher in Chicago and Indiana. While teaching, he began performing stand-up comedy and studying improvisation at The Second City in Chicago, eventually transitioning into television appearances on programs like *Def Comedy Jam* and *Jimmy Kimmel Live*. Robinson got his breakthrough in 2005 when he was cast on *The Office*. Originally introduced in the first season as a recurring character overseeing Dunder Mifflin's warehouse operations, Darryl Philbin quickly grew into a central fan favorite. His cool demeanor, musical numbers, and dry banter with Michael Scott led to Robinson being promoted to the main cast in the fourth season, staying with the show through its finale. Alongside the ensemble, he earned multiple Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Parallel to his television success, Robinson became a staple in contemporary American comedy cinema, often collaborating with Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen. He delivered standout performances in films such as *Knocked Up* (2007), *Pineapple Express* (2008), *Zack and Miri Make a Porno* (2008), *Hot Tub Time Machine* (2010), and *This Is the End* (2013). Beyond comedy, he proved his dramatic capabilities as saxophone legend Maceo Parker in the James Brown biopic *Get On Up* (2014) and won critical acclaim for the indie drama *Morris from America* (2016), earning a Sundance Special Jury Award and an Independent Spirit Award nomination. Robinson has also remained a regular fixture across television and voice acting. He gained widespread adoration for his recurring role as Doug Judy, also known as the Pontiac Bandit, on *Brooklyn Nine-Nine*, sharing dynamic comedic chemistry with Andy Samberg. He starred in the supernatural sitcom *Ghosted* (2017 to 2018) and headlined the Peacock satirical comedy series *Killing It* (2022 to present). His voice work includes animated roles in *Shrek Forever After* (2010), *Sausage Party* (2016), and *The Bad Guys* (2022) as Mr. Shark. Robinson frequently integrates live music into his routines, fronting his funk-soul band The Nasty Delicious and cementing his place as one of the most versatile comedic performers of his era.
